Oksana Bergen is a self-taught artist whose work oscillates between sculpture and installation. She creates intimate spaces of sensory perception.
Her inspiration is rooted primarily in her own biography. She grew up in a small village in Russia that was once a Gulag. Surrounded by untamed nature and the failed socialism of the 1980s, she developed a deep connection to art. Early on, she began experimenting with paper and natural materials.

In 2012, she traveled to China, where she immersed herself in traditional Chinese painting. During this time, she also learned and developed new techniques for working with paper in her own artistic practice.
For her, the material is not merely a medium, but a dialogue partner. Through cutting, embossing, and wrapping, paper can unfold, revealing both its vulnerability and resilience—qualities that the artist sees as a metaphor for the human psyche. Her works are grouped into various series that not only showcase innovative techniques such as the wet-wrapping method but also highlight the comparison between human beings and paper in different ways.
